Yesterday was my 30th birthday. Unlike most, I didn’t plan any large parties. Instead, I am going to Miami and then a cruise to The Bahamas with my best friend. Although I told many friends I didn’t need anything done for my birthday, two of my friends surprised me with some awesome 30th birthday gifts.
The entire gift was based on turning 30 and little sayings that different people may say about it. Now, you can’t just purchase what you like. You’ll want to listen to what they say when out and about, know their interests (as a friend, this should be easy), and then take the time to put it all together! My friends nailed these gifts with the cute sayings. I can definitely tell they listened when I was rambling on about random stuff and I appreciate the gifts and their friendship even more because of this! They even displayed on a cart at work and wheeled it into my office for me to see.
Next are the different sayings they included with each of my gifts and a close up of them.
Some people say 30…
- is sweet
- is just peachy
- is scary
- is when you know who your good friends are
- is golden
- is when you see the doctor more
- can be dicey
- is nothing to wine about
- is beautiful
- really stinks
- is messy
- is when you shine
Each of these birthday gifts was perfect for me because…
…is sweet and just peachy
I have a serious sweet tooth and I love gummies! Although I haven’t eaten peach rings in FOREVER, they somehow know to get those as well as gummy bears (another favorite).
Not only am I a total bookworm (have you read my About section yet?!), I also love scary things. It can be a scary movie, book, or anything haunted, I am intrigued and love to learn/read even more about it. I haven’t read In a Dark, Dark Wood yet, but I definitely will and soon. October is the perfect month since some people say it’s the time to read scary books and watch scary movies.
…is when you know who your good friends are
I didn’t grab a picture of this but you can sort of see it in the main picture of all of the gifts. It’s a picture of some friends (the ones that gave me the gift) and I. It’s in a really cute picture frame. I have it perfectly set up on my desk so I can see it and those that enter my office can see it as well. It’s probably my favorite of the gifts. I love pictures (I have a ton throughout my apartment) and I love having pictures of my friends!
Next is all about the Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers. Now, who doesn’t love these?! They’re the perfect snack for when you’re craving something slightly salty and “cheesy”. I left these at the office so I could have a snack whenever needed to make it through the day. Or you know, when I get too busy at work and forget to eat lunch, then suddenly it’s 3pm and I need a quick snack to make it through the rest of the day. I’m sure I’m not the only one that does this!
…is when you see the doctor more
Another favorite. Are you seeing a theme yet?! Dr. Pepper is my favorite soda! It doesn’t matter to me if it’s regular or diet; I love it all! Now, I know I shouldn’t drink as much of it as I do. My goal is to make drinking Dr. Pepper a treat rather than a “need”. Right now, my mind thinks I need it in the morning and afternoon for the caffeine kick. It’s not necessarily true so I’ll be working on that…soon.
…can be dicey
An item I had mentioned that I wanted/needed, Handheld Mandoline Slicer. I think I had mentioned it to them twice, lol. Once while we were at the Minnesota State Fair in one of the demo buildings. I saw a mandoline slicer there and happened to mention, “Oh, I need to buy one of those.” The next time was while we were doing lunch club at work together. I was eating the zucchini enchiladas I had made earlier in the week. They weren’t in the “enchilada” shape because I didn’t have a mandoline slicer to slice the zucchini thin enough. Since it was a conversation I just happened to mention that I needed one still. Now, these were not hints for my friends to buy anything for me. They were just part of the conversation and I was saying it in passing. I am so excited to try it out!
…is nothing to wine about
Another item, Houdini Wine Preserver, I had mentioned wanting. I had almost purchased one while at the Minnesota State Fair but then decided not to. I didn’t want to carry anything more than I needed while walking around and eating at the fair. My friend was with me though when I was checking out the demo. Well, as to be expected with her, she remembered this was an item I had considered buying so she got it as a birthday gift! Some people may be like, “Now when would you use that? Don’t you finish your wine?!” Yes, I do have times where I finish the entire bottle. I also have times where I open up a second bottle and need to preserve that one. I also have times, specifically in the middle of the week, when I only have one glass of wine.
…is when you need to write things down
I do need to write things down in order to remember them. It’s pretty common knowledge, at work, that if I need to remember to do something, send an email, etc. I write it on a post-it note and stick it to the bottom of my monitor. This way it’s right in front of my face and I can’t forget about it!
…is full of flavor
I drink a lot of water. Sometimes without any flavor enhancers and sometimes with. When I drink it with flavor enhancers, I like to use Mio Liquid Water Enhancer Cherry. I love cherries and that flavor so it is typically my go-to flavor for anything. I also like putting it in soda water. It’s a great alternative to soda, especially when I don’t have any Dr. Pepper around.
Next was a gift card for Ulta. You can never go wrong here. Even if your friend doesn’t wear much for makeup, she could still use it. They have hair products, nail products, etc. So many items! I’m excited to use this since my shampoo and conditioner are running out soon and I’ll need to purchase some more soon!
Although this may make it seem like my car stinks. It doesn’t, lol. I actually did a deep clean a few weeks ago so it’s very clean and smells good. However, one can always use more car fresheners. With how often we’re in our vehicles, they can get stinky with leftover food, fragrance, etc. Plus, my current car freshener is almost out so it is pretty much time to swap out to a new one! I even use the Febreze Car Air Freshener and I love the different scents that Febreze offers!
If you wear makeup, you know how important it is to clean your makeup brushes. Make it easy for your friend by purchasing a e.l.f. Daily Brush Cleaner. Brush cleaners are great! They make it so easy to clean all of your brushes. If you’ve never cleaned your brushes before, you should start now.
…is when you shine
Then there are sparklers! Almost everyone loves these! Not only did I love them as a child but I still love them today. One of my close friends was married this past Saturday and we did a sparkler send-off which was so fun. I’m excited to use my sparklers this weekend, while I’m at a bonfire with friends.
…is the time to travel
Can’t forget about the travel-themed gift! I love pasta and I love traveling! Hello, this is a Travel and Lifestyle blog so of course my friends got me something that represented travel. Tri-colored pasta with an Italian theme! One of my favorite countries and one of my favorite foods.
Finally, a cake!
My birthday happened to fall on the same day as our quarterly meetings where management and leadership get together to discuss pain points and form committees to solve those pain points. The previous quarter’s committees also present what they came up with as a solution. It’s a three-hour long meeting that includes dinner, beverages, and collaboration. Since it fell on my birthday, my friends also purchased a Nothing Bundt Cake for everyone to have a slice for my birthday. In Minnesota, it is known as being one of the most amazing cakes! It’s definitely one of my favorites. Apologies that there are no photos of the cake itself. We ate it far too quickly to get a picture!
